Shared warehouse
"Shared warehouse" refers to a logistical organisation by two or more manufacturers to optimise their transport costs by consolidating stocks for the same customers on a single site. This consolidation allows manufacturers to pool their transport (upstream and/or downstream of the shared warehouse) by reducing synchronisation constraints and maintaining high delivery frequencies.
They then share the costs linked to the real estate and the operation of the site and improve the productivity of the logistics activities by operating in mutualised supply management (gains made in order preparation in particular). This shared flow management method distinguishes the shared warehouse from a multi-client warehouse in which the activities of two or more manufacturers are carried out separately, even if transport can be shared.
